Everyone has lost a game of Ludo to a run of sixes and called it luck. Over one game, it is. Over fifty, the players who move the right token finish ahead. These are the habits they share.

1. They open tokens early

When a six comes, the instinct is to move the token that is already running. Good players bring a new one out instead, unless there is a capture on. More tokens on the board means more choices every turn.

2. They count the gap

A die shows one to six. A token that stops one to six squares ahead of an opponent can be hit next turn. Before you move, count where each option leaves you. Seven squares clear is safe for a turn.

3. They use safe squares on purpose

Safe squares are not resting places you reach by accident. Plan two moves ahead so that a threatened token lands on one.

4. They capture, even when it costs a little

Sending an opponent’s token back to the yard can cost them twenty or thirty squares and the six needed to get out again. That is almost always worth more than a few squares of your own progress.

5. They do not run one token alone

A single runner far ahead becomes everyone’s target, and when it nears home you need exact rolls. Moving tokens as a loose group keeps your options open.

6. They block where it hurts

Two of your tokens waiting a few squares behind an opponent’s starting square make every token they bring out a target. Position matters more than distance.

7. They play the clock

Online Ludo is usually timed or played to a points target. When time is short, the safest scoring move beats the ambitious one. Check the format of the table before the first roll.
